Sticking to authenticity can feel like a full time job. If I’m honest a lot of the stuff I write on here about body confidence, or embracing your imperfections is as much for me as it is for others. Sometimes we struggle, AND THAT’S OK.
The other day I bought a new dress and I got it in a size 10 from H&M. I picked it up and thought ‘that’s plenty big enough’ … pfft nope. Basically I felt like Patrick squeezing into SpongeBobs shorts *cue picture*.
For some reason it hurt a little more than normal.
We’ve just come out of bikini season – the time of year where it’s virtually impossible not to constantly compare yourself to other people in bikinis. But in comparing ourselves to others we use their strengths to highlight our weaknesses… no wonder we feel pants afterwards?

Rationally, we know that nobody is perfect- fact. Emotionally, we beat ourselves up when we don’t match this ‘perfection’ we see in others. The hard truth is: you aren’t perfect and you never will be and all the while you strive for perfection you won’t be satisfied. I try to embrace my uniqueness and usually I am pretty good at thinking to myself ‘you do you and I’ll do me’. But in the moments of weakness it’s tough. It’s OK to struggle with self love sometimes, as long as you pick yourself up, dust yourself off and accept that you are perfectly imperfect. Just like every other human.
Make sure any changes you make, or even wish to make, are for YOU and are intended to find happiness, rather than perfection.
If you look at it in a different way, those ‘imperfections’ you see are what makes you who you are, you already are perfect.
